Asian Convergence 2023 is jointly organized by The Hong Kong Federation of Design and Creative Industries, The Design Alliance Asia, and Hong Kong Design Institute, with Create Hong Kong as the lead sponsor. Taking place in Hong Kong and Zhuhai from November 26th to November 30th, Asian Convergence 2023 focuses on the latest breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence and their impact on the creative industries, and aims to foster discussion on creating a sustainable future for the industries from multiple perspectives.

Asian Convergence 2023 comprises five core programmes: ①Keynote Presentations “AI Unleashed: Exploring the Frontiers of Artificial Intelligence”; ②AsiaMeets 2023 Seminar & Roundtable; ③Special Programme with Wendy Teo and Aik Beng Chia; ④ Asia Convergence Showcase 2023, and ⑤Delegation Trip to Zhuhai. Industry leaders, designers, and educators from the Asian design community will convene in Hong Kong to join this momentous event to generate valuable inspiration and practical guidance to the industry.

Programme ① Keynote Presentation “AI Unleashed: Exploring the Frontiers of Artificial Intelligence”

When applied in design, Artificial Intelligence drives innovation and redefine creation processes. Generative AI, with the ability to reshape traditional design approaches, brings both possibilities and challenges to the future. The AI Unleashed Conference will be delivered by six industry leaders, designers, and educators, to discover the latest breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence and their impact on the creative industries and education.

Programme② AsiaMeets 2023 Seminar & Roundtable

AsiaMeets 2023 Seminar & Roundtable revolve around the theme of "Co-Creating A Sustainable Future." The discussions will focus on the challenges and opportunities faced by different regions, and how design can play a transformative role. Respected industry leaders, and renowned designers will share their insights, experiences, and successful case studies, providing valuable inspiration and practical guidance. The programme will explore how sustainable design principles can be integrated into urban planning, architecture and cultural preservation, product design, and various other creative fields, ensuring a harmonious coexistence between human activities and the natural environment.

Asian countries represent diverse cultural, social and economic contexts that exercise fascinating and challenging influences on how the creative ecologies are conceived, delivered and used. Asian studios have been at the forefront of delivering breakthrough designs, presenting some of the world's best, most original, and human-centric design solutions. These exemplary design practices will be presented in the "Asia Convergence Showcase 2023." It encourages the identification and promotion of knowledge regarding the best design practices in Asia.

A dialogue on co-creating social-cultural transition through design with Wendy Teo

Wendy Teo is a ARB/RIBA (UK) Chartered Architect, curator, researcher and founder of the Wendy Teo Atelier and Borneo Laboratory (under Borneo Art Collective). Teo, together with Borneo Laboratory, has carried out impact-driven art projects in Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UK, addressing complex interconnected sustainable futures issues on multiple levels. Notable projects include "Butterfly Garden” and "Narratives of Soil.” The dialogue will discover how design can transform our culture and society.

AI photography with Aik Beng Chia

Singaporean graphic designer AikBeng Chia started to take photographs with his iPhone in 2008, and has since become one of Singapore’s most creative photographers. He has explored the world of AI photography, and his "Return to Bugis Street" is a fusion of AI technology and artistic expression, transporting viewers to the vibrant atmosphere of 1970’s Bugis Street and shedding light on the lives of its transvestite and transsexual communities. The special programme will explore the spiritual world of AI-assisted photography, and gain insights into the use of AI tools to create compelling art and imagery in storytelling projects.
