Cloisonné Filigree is a traditional Chinese art form, originating in the Yuan Dynasty and flourishing in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Fine metal wires are shaped into patterns and affixed to a metal base, forming compartments filled with colored enamel paste. The pieces are fired, resulting in a smooth, polished, and vibrant finish.
Designed as an introduction to this traditional Chinese art form, this workshop aims to provide participants with a hands-on experience that highlights the beauty and intricacy of Cloisonné and experience the art of cloisonné in a simplified, accessible format (No firing or high temperatures required with non-fired glaze).
During this workshop, you will learn about the significance of Cloisonné within Chinese culture and its historical roots. You will gain insights into the materials and techniques used in this ancient craft, focusing specifically on the process of filling cloisonné compartments with vibrant enamel powders.
Note:
- Maximum of six participants per class
- The completed filigree base will be pre-prepared by the instructor (Dunhuang Pattern)
- Participants will take home their finished coaster (walnut based) at the end of the class
- Workshops can be taught in English/Cantonese
- Suitable for participants aged 10 and above
