Tai Kwun Movie Steps is one of the longest-running programmes since its opening in 2018. Jointly curated by Hong Kong’s film veterans and Tai Kwun’s Performing Arts Department, over 300 free screenings of local and international cinema have been presented in the semi-open Laundry Steps, featuring both well-loved and rarely seen titles from the 1950s to modern day. The series is not only a place for film lovers to gather, but it also serves as an important platform to introduce new faces in the film and animation industry to the general public.
From Aug 2025, the series will transform into a seasonal programme that provides an in-depth exploration into a diverse spectrum of film genres. Filmmakers, screenwriters, cinephiles, producers and festival organisers are invited to curate each of the season and enrich the experience with personal sharings and professional exchanges. The series cultivate a new generation of film curators and enhance the appreciation of the independent scene.
