The Flora Conservation Department at Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden(KFBG) has been dedicated to the conservation and education of Hong Kong's native plants for many years. Through garden displays and diverse activities, plant enthusiasts can appreciate the unique beauty of local flora without having to trek through mountains and streams. Coinciding with the botanical art exhibition ‘Impressions, Expressions – feeling & depicting nature’, KFBG is offering special limited workshops that allow the public to gain deeper insights into the wonders of plant taxonomy and scientific illustration of Hong Kong native plants
Botanical scientific illustration serves as a bridge connecting science and art. Plant line drawings, in particular, are essential elements in flora publications and scientific literature. Creating a botanical scientific illustration requires both solid botanical knowledge and artistic techniques.
Fruits and seeds are important reproductive structures of a plant. This workshop combines plant taxonomy with artistic creation, guiding participants to explore the world of scientific illustration through fruit or seed through pen-and-ink line drawings to vibrant watercolour renderings – experiencing the interweaving of plant science and aesthetics.
