The Pressmen’s Trail: A Letterpress Journey in Central

Post cover
time: 2:00pm – 4:00pm
venue: SG03-SG07, Staunton

Green street market stalls, iconic movie locations, exotic restaurants and bars… As you weave through the blend of old and new in the Central and Sheung Wan district, have you ever felt the cultural memories deeply embedded in these streets and alleys?

The cultural tour The Pressmen’s Trail: A Letterpress Journey in Central connects the dots between archival documents and oral histories, guiding participants along the everyday routes once traveled by workers in the printing industry. Together, we will uncover the stories of letterpress printing quietly told by the city.

From the birthplace of the world’s first complete set of Chinese movable metal type, Hong Kong Type, to the hubs of type foundries and print shops, we will pause at overlooked corners, picking up traces of history and delving into the ties between Central and the local printing industry. The journey concludes at the Open Press at Print Art Contemporary, where you can admire movable type, letterpress machines, and other rare artifacts generously donated by local pressmen.
