Extended Figure: The Art and Inspiration of Lalan

27/4/2021 - 19/9/2021
Chantal Miller Gallery, Asia Society Hong Kong Center

Xie Jing-lan (1921–1995), nicknamed Lalan, was an inspirational figure who left her legacy in the art form known as integrated art, incorporating painting, music, and dance. With her sound based in music and modern dance, Lalan choreographed her brushstrokes with instinctive and voluntary gestures. Her abstractions not only documented the transition of Lalans inner psychology, but also reflected the harmonious state she had been longing for.

To commemorate the artist’s centennial birthday, Asia Society Hong Kong Center celebrates the artist’s significance as a pioneer of cross-disciplinary art, and her impact on merging the aesthetic of the East and West. And it is the second key art exhibition of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Asia Society Hong Kong Center.

During the exhibition period, free guided tours will be available at the venue. Additional insights will be given into the stories behind the works.
