In traditional printmaking practice, prints often take the spotlight, overshadowing their plate (matrix) counterparts. “I See Your Strength”, at its core, positions etched copper plates as the protagonists, reshaping moments of human connection into lasting, tangible, and emotional imprints.
The plates, placed at the centre of the room, stand as raw, permanent witnesses to a fleeting bodily memory. Meanwhile, the resulting edition prints reveal the subtleties embedded in every crevice of the skin—whether it be the palms, eyes, shoulders, lips or torsos. By juxtaposing the plates with the prints, this series of work underscores the interplay between tangible physicality and the subdued emotional impressions that give us the strength to live on.
It is ideal that, when leaving the room of exhibits, you and I can reflect on the bonds that sustain us: the strength we draw from our loved ones, and the intimate traces etched into our minds.
